Rich Wood, Midcourse Correction Challenge Camps

It was a light turnout for our meeting, with the LBN regional mixer and seasonal sicknesses being the biggest reasons. However, the light crowd allowed us to spend extra time with our 10-minute presenter, Rich Wood, from Midcourse Corrections. Rich and his team of instructors run a 45-hour boot camp for at risk youth. The program is intended for troubled youths between the ages of 11 and 17. The camp is held twice month, running from Friday at 7pm until Sunday at 4pm. This camp strives to teach the youths that they must be held accountable for their actions, and do so through various group activities, where their individual actions impact the success of entire group. They also involve the parents, with a 2-hr Midcourse Parenting mini forum, which is held on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm.

The passion that Rich and his team have for this cause is incredible, and it shines through in the camp’s success. The last study done by the Livingston Juvenile courts on Midcourse’s program showed a 97% success rate (97% of the youths sent by the courts did not become repeat offenders).

The cost of the camp is $425, however, they do offer need-based scholarships to help the less fortunate. The LBN Chapter of Milford, Michigan inducted it’s newest member at the bi-monthly meeting on Thursday, September 1. President Greg Suzio officially welcomed Denise Kennedy, owner of Total Dimensions Hair Salon of Milford.

Ryan Dettloff of the Bob Dettloff Insurance Agency and Robin Strohmaier of R & R Web Design LLC, a Michigan web design company, both shared 5-minute presentations on their prospective businesses.

Vice President Susan Edson, Secretary, Karen Mills and President Suzio informed the chapter of upcoming events and news. The meeting wrapped up with each member
